Workstation security can be an issue in many organizations. What are some of the things a health care organization can do to secure a workstation to ensure no PHI is viewed by someone who is not authorized to view it?
Workstation Security are a major access point to organisation's PHI (protected health information) . If it is not properly secured , then it could lead to many threats like cyber attacks , Ransom Ware etc.
THINGS TO DO SECURE WORK STATION
1. TrainEmployees -. The employees should be given security awareness training with the knowledge to recognize security threats. This will encourage them to take appropriate precautions in handing patient data.
2. Control data availability -. The patient Information should only be accessible on a need to know basis like certain patient Information should only be available to physician briefly . The management should educate end users about the security risks relating to health care data.
3. Secure wireless networks and messaging system-.
-. The organisation must regular update their softwares , which helps to run system smoothly and provide fixes for difficult to use tools
-Encrypting Health records and other data , complying with HIPAA standards helps in protecting health information.
4. Workstation Safeguards-. -.
- Enable access control to restrict it's usage
-. Remove an employees access to network and programs within 24 hours of termination or resignation.
-. Set physical safeguard , position workstation so that public can't access them.
