What is the level of authority and the scope of authority of the US Food and Drug administration?
The scope of FDA's regulatory authority is very board.
In general FDA regulate
Drugs, include
Prescription drugs (both brand name and generic)
Non prescription (over the counter drugs)
Biologics include
Electronics products that give off radiation, include
Cosmetics like makeup and personal care products,skin moisturizers and nail polish and perfumes
Vetinary products like livestock feeds, petfoods,veterinary drugs and devices
Tobacco products like cigarettes,cigarate tobacco and smokeless tobacco
These above list of traditionally recognized product categories fall under FDA
So this is the reason of SCOPE of FDA
And the level of authority of FDA is that the FDA is a federal agency of US department of health and humanservices and one of the United states federal executive departments
FDA is responsible for protecting and promoting public health through the control and supervision of food safety, tobacco products..etc
FDA is led by the commissioner of food and drug appointed by the President with advice and consent of senate
