The most powerful person in the US is the president. The constitution gives us the information or description about the executive. Constitution as a limited document just lays down the framework and the rules.
A need of more flexible government is there, while as the constitution needs to be altered with the passage of time. The constitution sets down definite qualifications for the presidency. A presidential candidate must be 35 years old, must be the citizen of the US or one of its territories. The constitution originally written says members of the House of representatives to be directly elected by the qualified citizens. The president is in the real sense is then to be chosen by the electoral college. The framers of the Us constitution had chosen this way so that people do not elect wrong candidate, they wanted electoral college as a safeguard against the people. Many people believe that this not a democratic way. Leaving that aside now let us come to the powers of the president. He has got military powers, he orders wars and he stops them. He appoints federal as well as supreme court judges, which means he has judicial powers but it is subjected to senate approval. He acts as the chief diplomat of his country, thus makes the foreign policies. He can also propose laws with the aid of the senator or a congressman. While acting as the chief executive so, he ensures that laws are carried out in a proper way.
Powers of the president as formal or informal. Formal powers come from constitution and they are:
President is the Chief of the armed forces.
President has the powers to make treaties.
He receives the foreign ambassadors.
He has the power to veto laws passed by the congress
He has the power to hold special sessions of the congress.
He appoints judges with the consent of the senate.
He can grant pardons and reprieves.
Conclusion the framers of the constitution did not want to have a powerful President but over the last two and a half centuries the president has acquired a vast number of powers.
The president of the US is the most powerful person as he leads the most powerful nation in the world. And his informal powers are:
That he can led troops to start a war without congress actually congress declaring war. In other words, he can use force without being authorized. He has developed the powers to negotiate executive agreements. Informally he is also the CEO of the US. He chooses the agency heads. He can recommend laws he would like see in the country. One of his informal power is that he can give executive orders by which he can create agencies. But executive orders cannot be durable. He can also[WU1] impound the funds which has been appropriated for certain projects.
