1. Staphylococcus aureus causes diseases like pneumonia,Sepsis,Severe Sepsis,Septic Shock,cellulitis,osteomyelitis,boils,furnucles and abscesses.

2. Severe Sepsis : Sepsis characterized by systemic inflammatory response syndrome and organ dysfunction is known as Severe Sepsis.This can be caused by bacteria,virus or fungus.Staphyloccus aureus is one of the bacteria that is responsible for Sepsis.

3. Structure of the organism : This is a gram positive bacteria and are round in shaped.This is the reason it is named as coccus.This can be seen as grape like clusters and through microscope large golden bodies in groups can be visualized.

4. Clinical characteristics of the disease : Severe Sepsis patient can have a raise in the temperature,pulse,respiration and the count of wbc.There will be raise in either creatinine,bilirubin and also lactate levels.Temperature greater than 98.6 degree Fahrenheit,Pulse greater than 90 and respiration greater than 20.Wbc greater than 12000mg/dl.Platelets less than 1 lakh,Bilirubin greater than 1.5,creatinine greater than 2 and also a decrease in blood pressure ,mean arterial pressure.Other manifestations such as fever,renal failure,lactic acidosis of greater than 2,decreased urinary output,Hypertension and shock are some of the clinical characteristics of the disease.

5. Diagnosis of the disease and organism: The diagnosis of the disease can be made through laboratory tests of complete blood count,Intake output charts and also urine cultures.Organism can be diagnosed with the help of blood culture through agar medium.

6. Treatment : Treatment can be done through antibiotics for the identified organism like ceftriaxone,metronidazole,ampicillin etc.Symptomatic treatment based on the condition of the patient.Patient with hypertension can be administered with fluids at the rate of 30ml/kg body weight,Increased hypertension treating with vassopressors , performing focus examination etc.
