Solution:
We are given 3 samples first samples consist of two Group receiving intervention and control group on waiting list, second group consist of two type of Race White and Black/Hispanic and the third sample consist of two Age group 21-24 and 25-30. the degree of freedom of each group is 98, this means that each group has 100 observations in total.
the result of independent sample t- test of each of the 3 group is also given and we have to interpret the result.
1) In first Independent Samples T-Test by Group (receiving intervention vs. control group on waiting list),
The hypothesis to be stated as:
Ho: There is no difference between the groups receiving intervention and control group on waiting list.
H1: There is significant difference between the groups receiving intervention and control group on waiting list
From the result, the value of test statistic is -7.495 and the degree of freedom is 98, this means that the total sample size from both the group is 100 (as df is given by n1 + n2 - 2). the p-value of the test is 0.001 which is less than 0.05, so there is sufficient evidence agianst the null hypothesis, therefore we reject Ho at 5% level of significance and conclude that there is significant difference between the two groups.
2) In the second Independent Samples T-Test by Race (White vs. Black/Hispanic)
The hypothesis to be stated as:
Ho: There is no difference between the two Race (White vs. Black/Hispanic)
H1: There is significant difference between the two Race (White vs. Black/Hispanic)
From the result, the value of test statistic is -2.437 and the degree of freedom is 98, this means that the total sample size from both the group is 100 (as df is given by n1 + n2 - 2). The p-value of the test is 0.015 which is less than 0.05, so there is sufficient evidence agianst the null hypothesis, therefore we reject Ho at 5% level of significance and conclude that there is significant difference between the two Race.
3) In the third Independent Samples T-Test by Age (21-24 vs 25-30)
he hypothesis to be stated as:
Ho: There is no difference between the two Age group
H1: There is significant difference between the two Age group
From the result, the value of test statistic is 1.478 and the degree of freedom is 98, this means that the total sample size from both the group is 100 (as df is given by n1 + n2 - 2). The p-value of the test is 0.143 which is greater than 0.05, so there is insufficient evidence agianst the null hypothesis, therefore we fail to reject Ho at 5% level of significance and conclude that there is no difference between the two .
Since the effect size is not given in the table, so i can not be interpreted it.
