According to the Roy adaption model in this case breast conservative surgery is the stimulus for the patient. And how the patient deals with this stimulus is dependent upon her ability to adapt with the situation that is affected by environment, people with she living.
Breast conservative surgery may be used as a treatment plan of breast cancer.
During BCS, only the part of the breast that has cancer is removed. The cancer lump and some breast tissue around the lump are removed. How much of the breast is removed will depend on the lump’s size, and where it is located.
Benefits of BSC-
1. It’s also an option for many women with early stage breast
cancers.
2. BCS removes a smaller part of your breast.
3. The most obvious advantage of breast conserving surgery is a
better cosmetic outcome.
4. women who have breast conserving surgery are usually happier
about their bodies and have a better self-image than women who have
a mastectomy.
5. Sexuality may be less affected.
6. Women who undergo breast conserving surgery do not need to
undergo breast reconstruction surgery or have external breast
prostheses fitted.
Risk of breast conservative surgery-
1. The disadvantage of choosing breast conserving surgery is the
need for radiotherapy after surgery.
2. Radiotherapy is essential after breast conserving surgery as it
reduces the risk that the cancer will return, and improves
survival.
3. However, it can be a lengthy process – most women have
radiotherapy once per day, five days a week, for five or six weeks
– and there are some side effects.
4. There is also a risk that breast conserving surgery will not be
able to remove the whole tumour.
5. Short-term (temporary) breast swelling.
6. A change in the size and shape of the breast.
7. Hardness due to scar tissue that can form at the incision
site.
8. Wound infection or bleeding.
9. Swelling (lymphedema) of the arm, if lymph nodes were
removed.
Roy adaption model-
Roy explained that adaptation occurs when people respond positively to environmental changes, and it is the process and outcome of individuals and groups who use conscious awareness, self-reflection, and choice to create human and environmental integration.
The key concepts of Roy’s Adaptation Model are made up of four components: person, health, environment, and nursing.
According to Roy’s model, a person is a bio-psycho-social being in constant interaction with a changing environment. He or she uses innate and acquired mechanisms to adapt. The model includes people as individuals, as well as in groups such as families, organizations, and communities. This also includes society as a whole.
