Describe why private health insurance coverage has decreased over the past decades, creating the uninsured/underinsured crisis? Who are the uninsured? (Points : 20)

Solutions

Expert Solution

Yes, private health insurance coverage has decreased over past few decades. Because, most of the time people simply can't afford to get the insurance coverage they need. Costs just keep on going up every now and then in almost everything and health care costs are no exception. Raising insurance costs have contributed to a trend where only fewer employees are offered health insurance. Many employers are just managing costs by requiring higher employee contributions.

Now a days, Health care and insurance costs are becoming very expensive in US. Most of the uninsured are working poor or are unemployed. Some are healthy and choose not to go with the health insurance. Then comes the very unfortunate people who were rejected by the insurance firms due to some or the other reason and they are considered uninsurable. This way, in the entire gamot of the health care industry, private health insurance coverage has considerably reduced over past few decades.

Most uninsured people are in low-income families and have at least one worker in the family. Reflecting the more limited availability of public health insurance coverage in some states, adults are more likely to be uninsured than children. Even under the Affordable care act (ACA), many uninsured people cite that high cost of insurance as the main reason they lack coverage.
