Why does diabetes affect some cultural groups and racial groups more than others? Can you suggest some strategies to educate people about diabetes that would be cultural-specific?
I hope you will rate my answer positively--
DIABETES is a chronic condition which results in increased in blood glucose levels.
Diabetes is most common in African Americans, Americans, than others because of their Lifestyles , dietary habit, genetic factors, low socioeconomic status, environmental factors, obesity, low education rate ,etc. They also have high incidence rate of blood pressure.
Various strategies are ------
1. Encourage them to change their lifestyle .
2. Prepare a meal chart about their lifestyle , cultural eating habits, so that we can better understand their habits.
3. Educate them to self- monitor their blood sugar level.
4. Change nutritional habit and avoid the food of choice most of time as per as their cultures.
5. Do exercise regularly and take medications properly as recommended.
6. Don't skip meals, eat regularly.
7. Avoid smoking.
8. Give education about complications of diabetes in future if it is not controlled.
Thankyou.
