2. Discuss activities that the nurse practicing in the community can implement to assist families to decrease health risks.
Nurses can provide a preventive health care which encompasses a wide range of techniques to identify, educate, prevent and treat various types of diseases in the community.
Depending upon the position in health care facilities , the nurses can take part in 3 different ways of preventive measures:
PRIMARY PREVENTION: It is the measure undertaken to provide individuals in the community to educate and provide knowledge for the prevention of various health conditions. Nurses educate the population by encouraging positive health behaviour and giving counselling to the patients.
SECONDARY PREVENTION: It is a form of early detection of disease, identify individuals with high risk factors through various diagnosis procedure and give regular care to prevent onset of disease. If a disease is diagnosed in a person, nurses will work with them to reduce and manage controllable risk and help them with modifying lifestyle choices.
TERTIARY PREVENTION: It involves the treatment of the existing disease in the patients of the community. Nurses are tasked with helping patients and excecute a care plan for them and make any additional behavioural modifications in order to improve health conditions.
