Describe the effect and availability of affordable health insurance and access to care since the Affordable Care Act has become law.
The main focus of the Affordable Care Act is to increase the coverage of health insurance and to make health care accessible to those who need it (Affordable Care Act (ACA). The Act was created to help those non-elderly whose income were between 100% to 400% of the federal poverty line for Medicaid coverage; this equates to an individual with $16,000 yearly income or a family of four with a yearly income of $33,500. It also helps to subsidize the cost of health insurance for small businesses offering access to employment insurance through the healthcare market place. Since it came into effect the number of uninsured citizens has decreased from around 41 million to around 27 million. The Affordable Care Act has created many improvements in the ability of people to gain access to health care and insurance; reducing the number of people who did not have a family physician to by around 5.5% since it was implemented.
