MAP-IT helps to plan community through appropriate interventions. It is a step by step approach in developing community health needs.
Step1: Mobilize
The government agencies and local health departments combinedly work together to identify community health needs. A group of individuals addresses community health issues such as alcohol and substance abuse, domestic violence, environmental health with the use of a wide range of resources. They create a vision and plan accordingly.
Step 2: Assess
Assess the availability of resources in the community and allocating of resources by setting priorities based on the needs. The priorities can be set by taking opinions on experts and residents and through surveys about the public needs and health issues.
Step 3: Plan
In the planning session, the objectives should be set for every specific community issues to attain a specific goal. The planning should contain evidence-based intervention and specific time period should be set to reach the goal.
Step 4: Implement
Group members are allocated with a specific goal plan and each has to implement the plan and attain the goal within the timeframe. Effective implementation improves the overall health of the community.
Step 5: Track
Tracking is the evaluating of the plan through specific measures over a specific period of time. Necessary changes are done wherever is needed. evaluation and data tracking are vital processes for the success of the community.
