I need to give an example and explain the leadership gap that exists between men and women that contains each of the three parts of the "leadership labyrinth.''
Obstacles which women encounter is Labyrinth. It is the series of complexities, dead ends and unsual paths. This term is derived by Alice Eagly. Following are the three labyrinths which can come in women's leaderships. In order to increase gender equality change must take place at four levels, culture, organization, family and individual level.
Conflicting expectations - If women is a leder people expect qualities of both leader and a women, if they are too tough it is being said "just like a man" if they are soft they can be viewed as incomptetent or weak. Eg: Hillary Clinton is seen as tough, analytical but at the same time seen as not warm enough. They should bend upon culture if they have to be leader and break the stereotypes
Family - In these fast track world, wome pften have to strech in the evenings. But since they are typically more domestic oriented, they are usually the ones to cut back hours, leave promotion when it comes to children. This makes far more difficuilt for women to reach on the top. Sometimes there is no way for work life balance because family and work life makes it very demanding. There is lot of ethical pressure on women of being bad women.
Self Improvement - Even if some women are far more educated than men, they have tendency to doubt their worth at workplace. Women should promote themselves very well. Most women try to compare themselves with other women rather than comparing themselves with other men. They should for perks and accomplishment which men enjoy. Women should built up social networks just as men do. These networks are not only essential from emotional point of view but they also help in knowing worth of women in the society.
