  • Explain how research has evolved since the Florence Nightingale era.
  • Discuss how research and EBP are different; include how you believe research supports EBP for nursing.
  • Describe one past/historical unethical breach of research conduct; then, share how you would ensure care of a study participant using one ethical or legal research consideration (guideline/principle).

Florence Nightingale was the first nurse to start doing research. Her first research was done with focus on soldier mortality and morbidity during the Crimean war. In her research, she has shown the importance of cleanliness, ventilation, good water, and an adequate diet. In her research study shows the changes in the environment hygiene decrease of mortality and morbidity rate of the soldier. This is written in her landmark publication "Notes of nursing". Base on this research study she has to develop nursing nightingale environmental theory which we are still using it. The evidence base practice of hygienic to prevent infection is also still following while taking care of the patient.

Research is the overall study regarding a topic to find out any unsolved problem. It includes all introduction, review of literature, methodology, result, conclusion. But the evidence-based practice is the practice performed by using the result of evidence shown by a research study. A research study supports the EBP of nursing practice. During the research study, the researcher will perform the practice as a trial and error to the people after taking the consent from them, If success the researcher will publish the evidence that the practice can be performed. The information can be used by health care and use in the patient. This will helps to reduce the error in any practicing and promote the quality of patient care.

Tuskegee syphilis study is one of the unethical research study conducted by the physician in American history. During this study the physician wants to check the natural progress of untreated syphilis among the African American man who diagnosed with syphilis. The researcher promise to give free treatment for syphilis to the participant without the consent form. The researcher give non-effective medication to the participant and act like giving treatment to them. This kind of research is against the human right and lack of ethical consideration for the participants.

During the research study, it is the right of the participant to know the process of the interventions which are going to use to them. They should include in the study voluntarily after knowing the effects of the research study. It is compulsory to inform consent and the reseach study should conduct after accepted by a ethical committee to prevent any uneccessary harm to the participants.
