Provide a summary of why you think phenotypic plasticity, epigenetics, and critical windows are important for understanding climate change, ocean acidification, and human diseases.
First we need to understand the terms -
Phenotypic plasticity- When a change( than usual) of environment take place , the organism show differrent physiological, behavioral and morphological response to the changing environment.
Epigenetics- in this we study the phenotypic changes that are heritable and doesnot cause any change in the DNA sequence of organism.
Critical windows- It is a time period in organisms life in which its phenotype is effected by external and internal environmental factors.
Phenotypic plasticity, epigenetics, and critical windows are important for understanding climate change, ocean acidification, and human diseases because these factors are connected to organisms on their individual levels. Clinate change is easily reflected by all these factors as these changes also alters the organism's phenotype.Climate change, ocean acidification and human diseases all effects the organism on phenotypic levels, including genetic levels in case of human diseases. So if we know properly about what actually is altering the nature and organisms survival, we can be able to connect the link between. All the factors change the fitness directly, hence they adapt these behavior to deal with both internal and external environmental factors.
