Hypertension:

The disease or disorder of abnormally high blood pressure is called Hypertension. The normal blood pressure is 120 / 80 mm of Hg. If the blood pressure goes at or above 140/90 , it is considered as Hypertension.

2. Hypertension, the abnormally high blood pressure affects the health , safety and wellbeing of older adults. It is a chronic condition and if left untreated it may lead to a number of health consequences in elderly.

* In some people Hypertension may be asymptomatic, But in others it is characterised by headache, dizziness, shortness of breath, flushing, nose bleeds, visual changes etc.

*Chronic Hypertension condition may damage arteries, heart and brain.

Damage to the arteries due to Hypertension : arteries may become tough and less elastic. Fat deposition may lessen the volume of arteries. Blood supply to the vital organs may get affected.

Damage to heart: Hypertension increases the work load of heart. It inturn leads to the enlargement of heart chambers or weekens the heart muscles.

Damage to the brain: Hypertension may break the small arteries in the brain, lead to internal bleeding and blokage of blood supply due to clots. As a result brain tissue damage may occur. This inturn affect the body functions and quality of life.

The major complications of Hypertension due to damage to brain , damage to arteries and damage to heart , are:

* heart failure

* heart attack

* Stroke and paralysis

* Transient Ischemic Attack

* Untreatable hypertension may affect memory , capacity to recall and learn and it affects the quality of life of elderly.

3. Ratinale for choosing Client problem:

Hypertension is a common disorder in elderly . Half of the American ederly population are suffering with Hypertension. Awareness about Hypertension may help the Individual to control and manage the disease condition and to prevent late complications . In service Education of the employees regarding Chronic health condition , especially Hypertension may help them to apply the knowledge in their and their family members life and also they can teach patients about the importance of controlling Hypertension. Through Education one can understand that , other than heriditary, life style factors are playing a major role in developing Hypertension, such as increased fat intake in diet ( Hypercholostrolemia), Physical inactivity, smoking and alcoholism, Junk food consumptions etc . Hypertension, if it is untreated and uncontrolled, may lead to life threatening conditions such as Heart attack and stroke. It can effectively control by regular physical exercise, use of heart healthy diet with less salt and sugar, avoiding smoking and alcoholism and with the proper treatment. So through these measures elderly can effectively manage and control Hypertension, so that they can improve the quality of life.

( There was no  option for the specific topic, so i selected Hypertension, if you have any preference , you can comment. I can provide you it in the comment section. Thank you.)
