Ans. The practice of beekeeping (artificially rearing honeybees) is called apiculture.

Apiculture is important to our lives for following reasons-

1. It yields honey which is a highly prized nutrient or source of food for human being.

2. It also provides a source of income for the people engaged in such practices. Thus, it improves the socio-economical status of people.

3. Honeybees are one of the most important pollinating agent on Earth. Honeybees facilitate the fertilization of numerous crops (including cereals, vegetables, flowers, etc.) while collecting nectar from their flower. Therefore, indirectly supporting the sustenance of honeybees for the profit from apiculture practices actually does much greater benefit to the mankind – it fertilizes the crops and help them fruit – OR – helps in producing many types of food sources from plants.

4. The honey wax is used to make candles, cosmetics, etc. for human use.
