30 year old female. 135 lbs. She is single with two children. She works 5 days a week and moderately active. She is currently on the Atkins diet. She has a history of crohns disease. I need help explaining: Explain how food interacts with the medications this patient takes. What are the nutrient-related side effects of the medication? What are the nutrient restrictions and recommendations for the medications? o Example: Iron supplements cause constipation, so people are advised to increase fiber foods; however, if a person is taking fiber with iron, the fiber will reduce the absorption of the iron thus decreasing the effectiveness of the iron.
A healthy diet plan is important in ovreall health but there is no special diet for Crohn's disease. Malnutrition is a concern if the small intestine is affected and nutrients are not absorbed properly.Folic acid and vitamin B12 supplements maybe needed.Medications like Aminosalicylates eg.Olsalazine can cause Diarrhea,headache , rash and fatigue should take with food . Antibiotics can cause dark urine, anorexia , tingling of hands or feet should avoid alcohol and sun.Anti lnflammatory Synthetic Corticosteroid like Entocort (EC) can cause fewer steroid side effects eg.moon face and acne . avoid grapefruit juice..
Food that cause diarrhea and gas should be avoided Because the offending foods may be different for each patient.Foods are tried in small amounts.If they are thought to cause symptoms.In general high - fiber foods , caffeine, and milk products are avoided.
