list 3 carbohydrates foods that you eat on regular basis. for each identify if it is a whole grain or refined.state how many grams of carbohydrates are in each serving.

Solutions

Expert Solution

The three carbohydrates foods that I eat on regular basis are as follows:

1. White Bread : My White Bread refined as it was processed to make wheat flour and hence in the process it stated as whole grain but the end product bread is refined

2. Brown rice: I consume brown rice and t is whole grain as it has not undergone any polishing as compared to white rice

3. Apple (With skin): I consume apple which is essentially a whole grain as I consume it with skin and any kind of refinement to it.

To calculate grams of carbohydrate we use the following formula:

Food Weight X Food FACTOR= Grams of Carbohydrate in that Food

Now to calculate the grams of carbohydrates are in each serving we use the above mentioned formula for our 3 carbohydrates:

1. Bread:

Weight of Food (Bread) per serving= 100 grams, Food factor for bread= 0.53

Grams of Carbohydrate in bread = 100 X 0.53

Grams of Carbohydrate in bread = 53 grams of carbohydrate in 100 grams of white bread

2. Brown rice:

Weight of Food (Brown rice) per serving= 150 grams, Food factor for Brown rice= 0.27

Grams of Carbohydrate in bread = 150 X 0.27

Grams of Carbohydrate in bread = 40.50 grams of carbohydrate in 150 grams of Brown rice

3. Apple (With skin):

Weight of Food (Medium size apple) per serving= 180 grams, Food factor for Apple= 0.13

Grams of Carbohydrate in bread = 180 X 0.13

Grams of Carbohydrate in bread = 23.40 grams of carbohydrate in 180 grams of Medium size apple with skin.

Please note: The food factors for various foods are taken from Exchange Lists for Meal Planning USDA Nutrient Database
