ou are interested in testing the effectiveness of a new program designed to teach reading skills to elementary school students, describe how you would use a experimental design design to test the effectiveness of the program. Which type experimental design would you deploy? What type of conclusion can be drawn from the experiment?
Null Hypothsis: The new program will not be effective for the elementary school students.
Alternative Hypothsis: The new program will be effective for the elementary school students.
Samle: Elementary School Students
Sample Size: Total 80 Students. 40 in each group.
Tools: i. The new Program for Teaching Reading skills to students ii. Questionaire or scales to measure reading skills
Independent Variable: The new Program for Teaching Reading skills to students
Dependent Variable: Reading Skills
Design: Between Groups Experimental Design
Method: Two groups of 40 students each will be made, total of 80 in both the groups. Random assignment of students should be done to assign them in group 1 or group 2, they should have equal chance of falling in either group. They should be matched on age, sex and other other variables. It should be made sure that extraneous variable are controlled.
Group 1 will the experimental group, in which the new program to teach reading skills be be administerd on the students.
Group 2 is the controll group, no instruction of any reading program will be given.
This will be followed for a specified number of days for both groups. After the program, the scale used to measure the reading skills should be administed on both the groups.
Results: Scoring is done on the reading tests of both groups, and analysis may be done using Independent Sample T-test.
