Yes, the threat of Global warming very real. The effects of global warming are very much visible in the world climate right now. These effects are:

Extreme weather phenomena: It includes floods and droughts or extreme cold and hot summer condition. The rising temperature in the temperate climatic areas of the world like Europe and US. Drought conditions in California, polar storms in New York and other eastern coastal areas etc.
Rising sea level: Several low lying areas like the Maldives, SolomonIslands are on the verge of drowning or partially drowned already.
Rising temperature of the sea: Global Climate change has resulted in an increase in the mean temperature of the sea leading to acidification and habitat loss, destruction of coral reefs and dwindling fish production in former fish-rich areas.
Biodiversity loss: rising global temperature has resulted in biodiversity loss on the land as well. It has lead to the extinction of several species and destruction of several biomes.
