can you please describe how SHM is different from general oscillation?

Solutions

Expert Solution

General Oscillation = Can be regarded as the motion which repeats after a certain period of time over a certain mean position that is pre defined just like in pendulum that it oscillates within given distance and given period of time hence these are termed under general oscillations.

SHM= Simple Harmonic motion is that type of motion in which a restoring force acts to cause oscillations. For example when me stretch a spring which is connected to a wall from one end it experience a pulling force from our side now to counter that pulling force spring develops its own force to restore back to normal position. When we suddenly leaves the spring it goes to and fro causing Oscillations hence a force caused oscillations hence it is an example of simple Harmonic motion. Its experiment is given by Hookes Law.
