Nurses being the first line care provider, they play a vital role in rendering quality care among psychiatric patients too. In therapies whether its behavioral, cognitive or group therapy, the have a significant role to play. The cognitive therapy is a time limited, present oriented and goal oriented psychotherapy which helps clients to learn and apply specific strategies to bring modification in their cognitions and behavior in their own environment through homework.This helps to overcome difficulties and to identify the factors that is affecting their mental health and to make necessary changes. The psychiatric nurses have played a significant role in disseminating this psychotherapy.
This type of psychotherapy is used in cases of depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, addictions, anxiety disorders,suicidal ideation. The nurses should have complete knowledge about therapy in order to make effective outcome from the therapy.
