Imagine if you woke up tomorrow and all of your technological gadgetry was gone! What would it be like to live in a world with no TV, no smartphone, no iPod®, no microwave, not even a toaster? Well, perhaps someday you will get a chance to meet someone from just such a society as our world becomes increasingly smaller due to the processes of globalization. For now, though, your task is to explore and comment on the ways that levels of technology define the ways that people in different societies around the world still live today.
Answer this:
Technology and Society
Explain how different levels of technology have shaped the development of five types of human societies over time. Describe how people in each of those societies use available technology as part of their way of life. If you had a choice to be a member of any one of those societies, including our own, which would you choose, and why?
Ans)Preindustrial societies: before industrial revolution and the widespread use of machines, societies were small, rural, and dependent largely on local resources.the very first occupation was that of hunter -gatherer .
Hunter -gatherer societies: demonstrate the strongest dependence on the environment of Various types of preindustrial societies.Hunter -gatherer relied on their surroundings for survival _they hunted wild animals and foraged for uncultivated plants for food.
Horticulture societies: theses societies are formed in areas where rainfall and other conditions allowed them to grow stable crops.they were similar to hunter-gatherer in that they largely depended on the environment for survival, but since they didn't have to abandon their location to follow resources, they were able to start permanent settlement.
This created more stability and more material goods and became the basis for the first revolution in human survival.
Agricultural societies: members of an agricultural or agrarian society tend crops with an animal harnessed to a plow.the use of animals to pull a plow eventually led to the creation of cities and formed the basic structure of most modern societies.
Industrial society.:an industrial society uses advanced source of energy, rather than humans and animal,to run large machinery.
If I'm a member of the society i will choose agricultural societies.because,
1)all humans depend on agriculture for food.without agriculture there could be no cities, universities, factories,or offices.
2) today agriculture remains the most important economic activity in the world.
3) agriculture is the backbone of the Indian economy.
4) nutrition is a key determinant of human health.
5)provider of energy-fuel-wood and medicinal plants.
6) agriculture key to a healthy biosphere.
