1.Summarize the Davis -Moore thesis. illustrate how the thesis works with various types of jobs the relative rewards each would command. What are some criticisms of the Davis -Moore thesis?
The Davis Moore thesis purports that there exists a social stratification within profession environment, wherein a job that is considered to be a highly difficult job in society is a job that is concurrently the most important job for the society.
Hence, the thesis based on the aforementioned assumption states that these jobs, as a consequence of their importance, require to be more incentivised and be given more rewards than their counterparts, as people require a needed motivation in order to fill these positions.
For instance, according to this thesis A doctors or a lawyers job would demand higher reward and incentive programs than would a laborers job, which would command far lesser rewards.
One of the major criticisms of Davis Moore hypothesis is that how is one to decided upon the importance of a given job. And within a job, incentives are provided on the basis of performance quality and meritocracy as opposed to the job profile.
