The Central Processing Unit (CPU) is a component that act as the brain of a computer system.It moves data around the system n ways defined by computer programmers. We can not think of a computer without a CPU. CPU is a very complex device with a highly large set of electronic circuitry. It is used to execute a stored program instruction which is given to it by user through input.

Working: Whenever a data or some instruction is requested by the user then the CPU draws it from RAM and some other hardware for the purpose.Then before sending the information turn back to the RAM, the CPU reads the information with task given to it. After analysing the information, the CPU starts its calculation and transporting the data.

Now before data is executed, that has to travel through the System Bus. A bus in the computer is a communication system that is used to transfer the data of the computer.

Main function of CPU is to make sure that the data is processed and is on the system bus. The CPU manage the data to be in a correct order while arranging the data on the system bus.The action requested by the user is done and the user gets the processed and calculated information.When the data is processed , the CPU is required to store in the system's memory.

CPU has two compnents-

Control Unit and Logic Unit

Control unit is used to manage the operation of the CPU. It commands many computer components to work according to the program's instruction. The control unit is used to process program's instruction using electrical signals. It communicates with ALU and memory to carry out the process instructions. Mainly the control unit doesn't carry the instruction instead it commands the other part of the process. Without control unit , the different components will not able to execute the program.

Logic unit is also known as Arithmetic Logic Unit (ALU). It is the basic building block of the CPU.Its function is to perform integer calculation and bitwise logic operations. Calculation of ALU includes addition, subtraction, shifting operation, and Boolean .

In few simple computer, the processor may contain one ALU. In complex computer, the processor may have more than one ALU which works simultaneously to perform all of the calculations.
