How do hematologic disorders contribute to the pathogenesis of thrombocytopenia
Thrombocytopenia is a condition where the platelet count is less than normal count. platelets are blood cells helped in the blood clot. Thrombocytopenia can occur in many conditions and even can occur through some of the drugs. Some of the hematological disorders contribute to the pathogenesis of thrombocytopenia are
Trapped platelets: The spleen helps to fight against the waste material of the blood. Sometimes the enlarged spleen fight against the number of platelets which results in decreased level of platelets.
Decreased production of platelets: The bone marrow produces the platelets. Sometimes leukemia, a certain type of anemia may decrease the production of platelets in the bone marrow which results in decreased level of platelets.
Idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura: In this condition, the body develops small blood clots suddenly all over the body which utilizes a large number of platelets results in thrombocytopenia.
Platelet defect: In this condition, the platelet level is normal but does not function properly which results in bleeding.
Hemolytic uremic syndrome: This is a rare condition where the platelet level is dropped due to the destruction of red blood cells and also affects the kidney function.
