Describe the skeletal muscle adaptations to endurance training.

Describe the skeletal muscle adaptations to endurance training.

Solutions

Expert Solution

Endurance training or endurance exercise is also called as Aerobic exercise. There are two types in this like general endurance training and specific endurance training..It mainly relies on strength, balance and flexibility of the body.It is commonly used for sports training. It brings a change in cardiovascular system and skeletomuscular system.

Eg., swimming running, cycling

On long term basis it causes physiological adaptation of the body leading to changes in major system like in cardiovascular system

  • Bradycardia (decreased heart rate)
  • Increased stroke volume
  • Increased blood plasma
  • Increases cardiac output

In skeletomuscular system

  • Increases the mitochondrial volume in muscle fibre where specifically exercise are done
  • Increases myoglobin level after oxidation of energy
  • A process like glycogenolysis, glycolysis and lipolysis occurs causes disturbance in trained muscle
  • As a result utilisation of muscle glycogen and blood glucose usage is brought down
  • Leading to increased fat oxidation
  • And decreasing the lactate production

Thus it affects the skeletal muscle adaptation over a long period
