How does the administration/leadership support and value EBP??
The use of evidence based practice in nursing in the modern era have found to be effective in improving the health outcomes by improving the quality of care. The evidence based practices have increased the nurses knowledge and skill in evolving accurate nursing care plans for the patients. The role of a leader is crucial in every health care team. A leader's efficiency and skills determines the tactful functioning of the subordinates under his supervision. A leader is responsible to direct the staffs to the attainment of goal, to encourage the morale of the staff, to ensure safe working environment of staff, for ensuring that accurate decision is made about patient care.
As evidence based practice is been widely used in medical profession the leader plays a significant role is proper implementation of these practices. The head of the team is responsible to decide for which EBP is to be applied in which condition. The administration has to educate and train their staff about the various existing EBP and the methods to implement them in their daily care practices. The use of EBP also helps to evaluate the quality of care which is evident through positive patient outcome. The applicantion of EBP in nursing will also protect the staff from legal implications, so the leaders should emphasize the use of EBP in the regular care practices.
The administration should also develop inservice education for its staff which should incorporate the evidence based practices in the educational settings. The staffs performance evaluation should also be based on their accountability to utilize EBP in patient care. Therefore, the administration supports and value the concept of evidence based practices as it improves the work quality and productive and helps to yield better health outcomes.
