Your answer must be supported by federal law, state law, Troy University policy, and ethics. It can not be based on your opinion. As a HR professional, you will have times that you will have an issue that you must make a decision about that goes against your personal beliefs. There will also be times that you think that the issue is small, but you need to remember that the issue is big for the person that made the complaint. A faculty member at a college is dating a college student and there has been a complaint of unfair grading does it change your answer if they were dating before the student started the class? Does that change your original thought of potential or perception of unfair grading?

Dating a student is professional breach of trust and one that affect the integrity of entire educational institution. University have policies to control such incidents. Professors are obligated to maintain a position of authority, judgement and objectivity as mentors and teachers for whole student in their campus.

Some thinks that adults have right and no one can interfere in their private relationship, but there are other stakeholders involved include other students, faculty members, university and teaching profession itself. In some cases it leads to sexual harassment, violence, rape or demoralization. Since 1992, federal law in the U.S has required the institution to keep and report on sexual harassment cases to police.

Dating a student by a faculty member can arise problems including following:

* It is difficult to have an equal relationship when one have more power than other

* If relationship is known to other people, if one can get good grades, some may ask for validity of grades.

* If relationship between faculty and student ends badly, then professor may use his or her position to do different things like lower your grades.
