Describe short and long term goals for patient suffering from multiple sclerosis, measurable goals and patient-focused
#. Multiple sclerosis is a chronic , progressive , degenerative disorder of CNS characterized by demyelination of nerve fibres of the brain and spinal cord .
The main goals of MS management:
(1) modifying/reducing relapses and delaying progression to disability ( long term goal )
(2) treating relapses( long term goal )
(3) managing symptoms ( short term goal)
(4) maintaining an acceptable QOL ( short term goal)
Overall goals patient focused :-
-Maximize neuromuscular function ( short term gaol)
-Maintain independence in ADL's for as long as possible ( long term goal)
-Manage disabling fatigue ( short term goal)
-Optimize psychosocial well-being ( long term goal)
-Adjust to the illness( long term goal)
-Reduce factors that precipitate exacerbations ( long term goal)
