Put the following steps in order of occurance in neuronal activity

Question 9 options:

opening voltage gated sodium channels

opening ligand gated sodium channels

opening voltage gated calcium channels

Solutions

Expert Solution

1. Opening of voltage gated calcium Ion channels.

2. Opening of ligand gated sodium Ion channels

3. Opening of voltage gated sodium Ion channels

  • When nerve impulse reaches axon terminal, opening of voltage gated calcium Ion channel occurs resulting in influx of calcium ions and Calcium triggers release of neurotransmitter by exocytosis for example acetylcholine.
  • Acetylcholine binds to the the receptor on postsynaptic neuron and influx of sodium ions occurs through ligand gated sodium Ion channels.
  • Simultaneous opening of voltage gated sodium Ion channels takes place and depolarization occurs.
  • Due to depolarization, transient opening of voltage gated calcium Ion channels or L-type channels takes place.
  • calcium influx occurs and calcium ions causes opening of rynodine receptor channels which are present on sarcoplasmic reticulum, and concentration of calcium ions increases in cytosol which participates in physiological activities of target cells.
