38.Role of liver in metabolism of fatty acids.
-biochemistry
(please more explanation Im medicine student)
Majority of the lipid metabolism i.e. fatty acid metabolism is carried away by liver in variegated ways:
1.The liver triggers the oxidation of the triglycerides to produce energy where many more fatty acids are broken down which are needed by the hepatocytes. After the catabolism large quantities of acetoacetate are produced which are exported into blood. There the acetoacetate can be picked up and readily metabolized by several other tissues.
2. On the other hand ,the liver is the major site where excess amount of carbohydrates and proteins are converted into fatty acids and triglyceride. Further they are exported and stored in the adipose tissues.
3. Not only that liver synthesizes large quantities of cholesterol and phospholipids along with various lipoproteins. Some of cholesterol or phospholipids are packaged with lipoproteins and becomes available for the rest of the body. The remaining portion is excreted in bile as cholesterol or after conversion to bile acids.
