which of the following correctly reflect ways in which a chemical equilibrum can be shifted? changing the temperature of the system, changing the concentration of reactants or products, changing the pressure of a gaseous reactants, changing the volume of a container for an aqueous reaction
Answer-There are three factor which shift the chemical equilibrium-
1) Temperature
2)changing the concentration of reactants or products
3)changing the pressure of a gaseous reactants.
change of concentration of reactants affect the chemical equilibrium ,when concentration of reactants is increased or decreased than product of the reaction also changes..for example cosider a reaction
H2(g) + I2(g) ↔ 2HI(g)
If we add H2 gas to the container, equilibrium shifts to the right and system decrease the concentration of H2
Temperature also affect the chemical equilibrium, for equlibrium condition tem of the system should be constant if tem is given to the system than equlibrium will be shifted..This effect is govern by Le Chatelier's principle.
Pressure also affect the chemical equilibrium this only valid for gaseous system if under constant temperature pressure is removed or added, pressure of the system changes. However, change in the concentration is taken into consideration not pressure so also affect the chemical equlibrium.
