¤Penicillin belongs to a narrow spectrum antibiotics .If an individual or client is allergic to PCN then they may also have allergic reaction tod drugs belonging to Cephalosporin .The same molecular structure is the reason for both penicillin and cephalosporin

¤The following assessment and nursing interventions has to be done in case of mild anaphylactic reaction

  • Assess ABC(airway,breathing ,circulation)
  • Place the patient in prone position with lower limb elevation to treat, prevent hypotension ,any air embolism
  • Monitor the patient's vital signs and oxygen  saturation
  • Remove or stop the trigger or medications causing reaction
  • In case of breathing difficulty administer oxygen
  • Alerts the rapid response team if patient is unresponsive

¤If a client takes broad spectrum antibiotics for a longer period then they are susceptible for bacterial resistance or antibiotic resistance. The recurrence of infection can be severe and needs a very stronger antibiotics than previous medications. High chance for toxicity, viral infection

If they do not finish the antibiotic coarse then they ate very high risk for getting infected again with severe symptoms

¤The most common side effects of antimicrobial are

  • GIT:Nausea,vomiting,pain,constipation, yellow teeth,diarrhea
  • CNS: headache, neuropathy
  • General:weakness

¤The most common adverse side effects of antimicrobial are diarrhoea ,secondary infection
