• Which biome(s) do you consider most threatened by human action? Why?

Answer- Earth's biomes can be claasified broadly into two categories, terrestrial and aquatic. These are further divided based on climate and on the dominant plants and animals that have evolved to thrive in their specific enironmental conditions. The major kinds of biomes are -

• Forest biomes
• Desert biomes
• Grassland biomes
• Tundra biomes
• Aquatic biomes

Whether directly or indirectly, human intervention has permanently altered the face of our planet. This unchecked human influence has led to threats to the overall health of numerous biomes, especially as a result of global warming.

          The forest biome is at most risk due to human activities. The rainforest has undergone significant deforestation due to logging, power generation, the expression of agriculture and the paper industry. The loss or exinction of terrestrial biomes is due following reasons-

• Habitat loss - People directly destroy habitat include filling in wetlands, dredging rivers, mowing fields, and cutting down trees.
• Habitat fragmentation - Much of the remaining terrestrial wildlife habitat has been cut up into fragments by roads and development.
• Climate change - The burning of fossil fuels for energy and defrestation are two of the biggest contributors to global warming and it further leads to alteration in temperature and weather patterns which also imapacts plant and animal life.
