2A. Define the term rhizome.
2B. What is the name given to a fern leaf? List and describe the parts of a fern leaf.
2C. Define the term sorus. What is an indusium? What is a sporangium?
2A. A well developed underground stem is called rhizome which carries nodes and internodes are necessary to form root and shoot. The main function of rhzome is storing nutrients like carbohydrates and proteins. Rhizome can develop into a new plant. Best example for rhizome is Zinger.
2B. Fern leaf is also called as fronds. Fern leafs has a leafy blade and petiole. Petiole is leaf stalk and leaf blade part has apex, midrib, pinnule and pinna. Tip of the leaf called apex. Midrib is main axis which holds pinnule and pinna. Pinnule is the segments of pinna which is attached to the midrib.
2C. From the back side of fern leaves a special outgrowth like structure are called Sorus. Sorus are groups of sporangia which contains spores which is important in reproduction. The newly formed sorus were covered by flaps of protective tissue is called as inducium. Sorus were made up of sporangia and this contains spores.
