the utopian community analysis

What do we mean by a "utopian community"? Were there different kinds of them? Why did they seem to spring up when they did.

What was going on in American history at the time that provoked them?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Utopian Communities are societies that exhibit desirable or perfect traits for their citizens. The institutions also observe ideal conditions based on social organization and advocate for their political and friendly schemes. The places with utopian characteristics exhibit customs, laws, requirements, and politics; the residents in these regions may not be perfect, but the system that guides them is considered an ideal example of paradise and externally altered society (Hardy & Dennis., 2000).  The rise of utopia aimed at realizing a just society that promoted comfortable living regardless of society rankings and social classes.

The first half of the 19th century encountered rapid economic, social, and political aspects and later ushered in the golden era that exhibited utopian experimentation. Oneida perfectionists, Amana Inspirationalists, Mormons, and Fourierists championed the ideas between 1820 and 1870 (Bainbridge & William., 28). The groups faced contrast from the dominant cultures and the elites who repulsed and seduced the new utopianism regime. The efforts to rise economically, socially, and politically resulted in conflicting ideas since communities and residents differed from others adopting unethical means to accumulate resources for themselves and attain political supremacy, hence contradicting utopianism values.
