Learner characteristics are applied in the science of learning and cognition to label a specific group of learners and define their personal, academic, social and cognitive characteristics that can influence how and what they learn. Learner characteristics help instructors to design and create a tailored instruction for the targeted group of learners. Taking into account different types of learner characteristics ensures that instructors design efficient, effective and motivating instructional materials. Good instructional design requires good information about the learners. One key learner characteristic is the learner's goals. A clear understanding of the student's motivation and what they expect to get out of the learning program should influence the design of the learning program. For example, in academic learning is imperative to find ways to move learners whose approach is initially driven by extrinsic rewards or qualification that engage learners in the subject matter. what setting learning objective for with post-secondary qualification or working students avoiding pre-determined course might be helpful as well as focusing on specific areas of the content that will meet their needs such as delivery time.

The final project proposes a professional development training program for teachers on an important set of skills, teaching techniques, and new must-have classroom technology. Some of the key tasks for the instructor will include but not limited to development and lesson planning, instruct and demonstrate how to apply skills, knowledge, and classroom technology. Other tasks include constant monitoring of the students' progress, assign and grade assignments, discuss the learner's progress and to develop and enforce the classroom rules and safety procedures. Classroom management is one of the primary tasks that help instructors keep classrooms and learners under control. Classroom management ensures that instructors are able to establish and maintain a functional learning environment thus fostering student's development and learning outcomes.
