All of the following factors are important in causing the worldwide resurgence of tuberculosis: (a) emergence of strains that are resistant to one or more of the available antibiotics eff ective against MTb; (b) incomplete or inadequate understanding by scientists of the details of the host/pathogen interaction in MTb infection; (c) lack of a universally-accepted vaccine; (d) lack of fi nancial support for science and for public health initiatives in developing countries; (e) famine; (f ) geopolitical instability in the developing world; and (g) inadequate public awareness of public health issues. If you were a billionaire philanthropist like Warren Buff et or Bill Gates, where would you focus your eff orts against tuberculosis?
As a philanthropist I would put my efforts in 'Famine' areas
beacuse poverty and tuberculosis are always go together. Also I
would like to provide financial support to science and public
health initiatives in developing countries.
Poor nutrition and inadequate living conditions contribute to the
spread of TB and its impact upon the community.
Fighting TB and poverty together is a necessary to accelerate
economic and social growth and consequently reduce the global
burden of TB.
Tuberculosis continues to cause significant morbidity and
mortality, especially in the low and middle income countries
identified by the World Health Organization.
Though a specific vaccine is not found effectively against TB,
there are proper treatments available with antibiotics to cure
tuberculosis. The limited access to healthcare is an issue in
developing and underdeveloped countries and just one person with
untreated infectious TB can pass the illness on to 10-15 people
annually.Even where TB treatment and drugs are free there is often
a cost of travelling to clinics and additional heating or nutrition
needs.
The poorest have least access to the treatment. So it is a necessary
to focus more on famine areas as well prodving fund for science and
public health initiatives in the prevalent areas of
tuberculosis.
Eradication of poverty contributes to enhanced immunity among
people and science and public health initiatives will make people
aware of the risk associated with TB and they will get more access
to the treatment.
