Solutions

Expert Solution

(1) At a pressure of 907 mbar , what would the height of the mercury in the column of a mercury barometer?

We know that 1 bar = 750 mm Hg

                  1 mbar = 10-3 bar = 10-3 x750 mm Hg

907 mbar = 907 x750x10-3 mm Hg

              = 680.25 mm Hg

Therefore the height of the mercury in the column of a mercury barometer is 680.25 mm Hg

(2) We know that 760.0 mm Hg = 101.3 kPa

                      ----> 1 kPa = (760.0 / 101.3) mm Hg

                                               = 7.50 mm Hg

205 kPa = 205 x 7.50 mm Hg

             = 1538.0 mm Hg
