What are some strategies for delivering messages to targeted audiences that may have limited English proficiency?
Communication style and methods for different audiences should be developed for targets of different levels of proficiency. Language always stays a hindrance for smoother communication in cases of lack of proficiency.
In such sitauations, many other strategies can be adopted such as use of a good translator in mass addressing and speeches, use of various visual and non verbal communication methods.
Use of a good translator always conveys the idea or message in the native language of the audience. This will be more helpful for the targetted audience who lack proficiency in English language to understand the content of the message without a self stigma of lack for the same.
Visual media of communication can be adopted like, arrange pictorial charts , leaflets, books, albums etc.with simple titles and very necessary explanations in their native language or mother tongue. This improves the understanding as well as interest.
What can be done to be sure that high-risk populations are not left out with the increased use of new technologies?
The emergence of developing technologies actually render the old age who were not familiar with it, very difficult when the reason or need for the same technological development finally gets confined to that circle of technology users only. At least some steps should be taken to ensure that high-risk populations are not left out with the increased use of new technologies.
The high-risk population should be assured that they are also a part of our social circle and never neglect them because of slow pave in technology using.
The newer developments which are coming in to action should be in a user interface friendly for them also, at least for the essential elements like bill payments, food ordering, taxi hiring etc.
They can be given a friendly meeting an introductory sessions to these technology advancements in small social circles by selfhelp groups or clubs of youngsters.
