Why did the Reformation happen in Germany?

Why did the Reformation happen in Germany? What issues motivated Martin Luther to rebel against the Church and papacy?

Solutions

Expert Solution

The reformation period involved the adoption of changes; these occurred in the 16th century based on religious movements. The differing groups within the papacy regime needed changes and modifications to Roman Catholic doctrine, resulting in the establishment of Protestant churches (Nummedal & Tara, 2019). Therefore reformation began in Germany after the small German states were dissatisfied with acting as subordinate to Holy Roman Emperor. The hierarchy observed in the Catholic Church rendered subjects intolerance to the supreme powers.

Luther's initiated church in collaboration with other Protestant denominations presented opportunities to achieve autonomy. The Catholic Church had become too powerful and enjoyed a monopoly worldwide; Martin Luther protested the Catholic papacy since the church had become complicated, wealthy, and powerful (Strauss & Gerald, 2014). The Catholic Church insisted on salvation, yet the exploitation of the poor was massively evident in society.  Luther was angry with the clergy's encounter selling indulgences with remitting believers' claims from punishments for sin. The injustices encountered sparked opposition among the activist, and this resulted in protestant groups.
