 William Lloyd Garrison

Lloyd Garrison was the most famous abolitionist and very influential; he initiated a publication known as The Liberator, which promoted the instant freeing of enslaved women and men. The agitation for liberation was backed by the Black abolitionist society fighting anti-slavery (Blackett & Richard., 2002). Garrison acted as one of the founding members of the American Anti-Slavery Society in 1833; he insisted on non-violence and moral suasion as appropriate means to enhance abolition.

Fredrick Douglass

Douglass joined the abolitionists after reading details in Garrison's newspaper, The Liberator, in which he later agreed to collaborate and oversee the fight against slavery (Douglass & Frederick., 2018). In 1845, he published his autobiographical Narrative, which accorded him national fame. He shifted to the United Kingdom, lecturing and significantly condemning slavery; the British host treated him as a celebrity.

Angelina Grimke

Angelina was from the wealthiest slave-owning family; they were located in Charleston. She was religious and believed slavery was not legit; she attested that God would punish those enslaved other human beings. In 1836, Grimke wrote An Appeal to Christian Women in the South, and the appeal was later published in the American Anti-Slavery Society (Grimké & Angelina., 2003). Grimke still championed abolition by agitating for the rights of enslaved people and women.
