Since governments don't have the capacity to address or fulfill all of the political, economic and social gaps which exist, it is crucial private citizens engage in the betterment of our societies. Civic engagement is that one way which help the citizens to shape the collective future of our community albeit even on a global or local scale.

Civic participation include a wide number of activities in which citizens also participate in the informal and formal political processes which address the community fulfillment and needs and seek to improve the quality of life for individuals and entire communities. There are three main themes of civic engagement. The first, civic, is to regular volunteerism for a non-electoral initiative, as active membership in a association, and even to participate in a fund-raiser for a charity. The second theme, electoral, means registering voters, volunteerism with an electoral campaign and helping financially to a political party. The third theme, political, refers to speaking at government talks, contacting officials, media and even to concerned citizens about issues of concern to the community and even boycotting .

Civic engagement gives us with an great opportunity to transform and change our communities. Through active participation in our communities we are able to address and identify social challenges which are specific to the society. Civic minded persons consider themselves as being a member of a very larger social fabric and their collective responsibility to shape one’s society for the ones betterment. We can either participate in the system governance of our communities or become a nation of spectators.
