During these six months, she has had several colds and flu events where she was unable to do normal activities. Her mother reports she spends a great deal of time sleeping, sometimes twelve hours, and complains of fatigue when she awakens. She is pale and appears to have little energy. The doctor suspects iron deficiency anemia (IDA).

1 - Iron deficiency anemia is the single most prevalent nutritionla deficiency worldwide.

Laboratory diagnosis of iron deficiency anemia.-Anemia means blood heamoglobin level less than 7.7mmol/l in men and 7.4mml/l in women.The evaluation of the cause of anemia includes a complete blood count,preipheral smear,reticulocyte count,anr serum iron.The severity of anemia is based on the patients hemoglobin level.Iron deficiency anemia is characterised by microcytic,hypochromic erthrocytes and low iron store.

Management - Intravenous iron is very effective in the treatment of iron deficiency anemia and should be consider when oral iron is ineffctive.ferrous sulfate is the mainstay treatment for treating patients with iron deficiency anemia.It should be taken for 2 onths after correction of the anemai and its etioligic cause inorder to replenish body stores of iron..

2-Diagnosis of hodgkin's lymphoma includes

  • a physical exam- assess the swollen nodes including neckunderarm ,groin,as well as swollen liver and spllen.
  • Blood test -To identify any signs of cancer
  • Imagine test- This may include X-ray,Ct and positron emission tomography.
  • removing a lymph node for testing.-It can be done by biopsy and sent for testing.
  • Bonemarrow testing-This is ti anlyse the lymphoma cells.
