How you portray caring

Solutions

Expert Solution

Showing care towards the patients is an important part of healthcare delivery. Nurses can use several verbal and non-verbal ways of communication to convey the caring behavior.

Calling patients by their names causes pleasure to the patients and most of the patients like this approach. This approach helps to build a better relationship between the staff members and the patients. Calling patients using their names makes the patient understand that the staff care enough about them. A personal touch can be added to this custom, which makes the patient feel more comfortable as if they are at home or friend’s house.

Touch is a part of non-verbal communication. It plays a key role in communication because it conveys the person’s care and compassion to the receiver. The nurses can use touch to convey their feeling of care and empathy, and should not hesitate to do so. However, precautions must be considered in case of patients with contagious diseases. A touch can convey the feeling, which cannot be expressed by words.
