A patient who has hearing impairment approaches with a question regarding an OTC tooth whitening product. She wonders what the difference is between a whitening toothpaste and OTC whitening strips, and which would be more effective. How do you communicate with this patient with hearing impairment?
Answer. In any communication, the efforts of being a good listener and a good speaker is the main key. Whenever we talk to a person, we need to be very specific, focused towards that person and clear in words. Similarly, when to communicate with a person with hearing impairment, one's way of talking should be very clear.
In this case, the patient should be provided with the good effects of this OTC toothpaste by talking in a clear and slow way, so that each and every word is visibly understanding. The written notes can also be given to the patients about any specific information. The OTC(over the counter) toothpaste that is anti carries, helps in removing debris and plaque easily and whitens the teeth, can be suggested by showing some signs and by talking to them in slow, clear and naturally expressive way, so that the patient understands it easily. Also, the information leaflet which comes along the packing can be seen to the patient which have pictures on it. By showing those pictures along with clear verbal messages, the patient can be convinced to buy that toothpaste only.
