Expert Solution

Per Section 213 (d) of the Internal Revenue code, unless the diet program and the related expenses with respect to such diet programmes are prescribed by the Physician.

As Cliff made a voluntary decision to lose weight during the year and was not prescribed by any physician as such, these expenses will not be deductible. These expenses are hence, not deductible. Both the cost of the program of $59 as well as the $100 for meals are hence, not deductible.
