I want a report on
‏)Gas Turbine Power Plant as are being used as standby plants for hydro-electric)

Solutions

Expert Solution

One of the greatest disadvantage of gas turbine power plants is its lower turbine efficiency therefore cannot be utilised for commercial production of electricity instead it is normally used to supply standby/auxiliary to other conventional power plants such as hydro electric power station.

Further hydro-electric power plants are genrally used as base load power plants but during peak load hours the stand by power plant must be coupled to compensate for peak load. Therefore use of storage-type standby electric power plants is advantageous. Such plants can store energy at night time, when power consumption is low, and thereby create a load for the base-load steam-turbine power plants In daytime, the stored energy is used to cover peak loads. Such standby electric power plants are exemplified by gas-turbine plants. In the (GTPP) air is pumped and compressed during the night and is stored in airtight spaces, for example, in underground chambers.and during peak load time they are Stwiched on to meat the increasing demand.this will surely result in optimum increasing functioning of hydroelectric power plants.

In a gas turbine of a thermoelectric plant a regenerator is used that preheats the air before it enters the combustion chamber. You have the options of a backflow heat exchanger or a shell heat exchanger and two tube passages. The air leaves the compressor at a temperature of 350 C and the exhaust gases have a temperature of 700 C. The mass flow in both cases is 5 kg / sec. The overall transfer coefficient is 75 w /...

A gas turbine used for power generation is producing 57MW of power. The turbine’s exhaust temperature is 541°C at a mass flow rate of 132.8 kg/s and is currently emitted to the atmosphere. Your task is to design a heat exchanger that recovers the waste heat from the exhaust. The recovered heat is to be used to heat water from 40°C to 60°C for use in a closed-loop hydronic heating system for an office building. The heat exchanger is to...

Standby power (sometimes called vampire power) is the power used by a device that is off but plugged in and in a standby mode. Regulations typically limit this power to 1 Watt. If electricity costs $0.10 per kilowatt-hour, then to the nearest order of magnitude, and assuming 1 Watt, how much does it cost to leave a device in standby mode for one year? (A) $0.01 (B) $0.10 (C) $1.00 (D) $10.00 (E) $100.00
