Pertussis whooping cough is also termed to be Whooping cough

It is one if the the infection affecting the lungs and it is often very contagious or spreads easily.

It can easily spread through air as droplets, by direct contact of the infected surface

The incubation period is about a week to ten days and the patient may recover in s couple of months or three depending upon the time of treatment

It is classified into three stages

Stage one: lasting about seven to fourteen days

Stage two :lasting about ten weeks

Stage three :is about fourteen to twenty one days

Common symptoms

• Respiratory system :cold, running nose, cough whooping in nature ,secretion or congestion ,sneezing ,breathing difficulty apnea ,Cynthia if severe
• Gastrointestinal system : vomiting
• General :exhaustion,fatigue
• Sensory system:red eye
• CNS: Hyperthermia

Etiology

• Low immunity
• In infected area or zone
• Children,adults ,teens not vaccinated for this infection
• Infants

Diagnosis :

• blood investigation :CBC to rule out infection
• Throat swab or nasal swab to confirm infection
• Chest x ray to assess any inflammation

Treatment

The treatment after the infection is symptomatic and treating the underlying infection

Antibiotics are generally perceived to kill the bacteria and prevent infection

Antipyretics to reduce body temperature

In case of vomiting ,antiemeyivs can be administered

Complications

• Pneumonia
• Seizure
• Urinary incontinence
